Start with an approved file

A public APK has not been published. The download page has no active link, version or checksum. This guide is for a future public APK or a specific test DNS build supplied separately by the owner. Do not substitute a similarly named file found elsewhere.

Installation steps

1. Obtain the approved APK and details for that exact file: version, date, Android requirements and SHA-256.
2. Check compatibility and compare its checksum with the supplied value. The project currently sets minSdk 29 — Android 10; final public APK requirements have not been set.
3. Open the APK on Android and follow the system installation steps. If Android requests permission to install from the selected source, that permission concerns the file source rather than DNS filtering.
4. Open NetScope and continue to first launch.

There is no need to clear existing application data for an ordinary installation. The owner must confirm a particular test update and its signing identity; this guide does not promise data preservation for an unknown APK.

Identify the build

The DNS build and experimental Preview are different variants. Preview has a separate package and its own preferences. A source version number does not replace the details of a downloaded APK. See capabilities and limitations.
